A monster in the woods

20120902-210349.jpg
Among the trees I see a thing
Lurking
A beast is waiting in the shade
For me
It represent the dreams I have
At night
Now it threatens me here among
The trees
Am I loosing all my sanity or is it
My life
I slowly back away to safety in sun
Outside
But I know the beast will come back
Again

  1. This is vintage Bjorn! You do scary/funny monsters so very well! I like this form, also; did you invent it?

(When it comes to naming all the various established forms of poetry, I am far from expert. Also, in music–although my darling will say it’s my first language–I am not what one would term a “musicologist.” I have no mind for minutia. Although I do make fairly intricate connections between things.)

Also, in the fifth pair, did you mean to write “losing”–as in losing ones mind or losing ones sanity? I can also see this could possibly be a play on words, because “loosing” ones sanity, implies one is letting ones sanity go. So either way, it works well.

    • This was a little bit of an invention. I tried to combine my version of free verse with a little structure. Thought I do something similar, maybe varying pentameter lines with single iamb lines. I think it would go for a nice dialogue poetry, Maybe suitable for a little irony, providing a little twist for each single iamb. What do you think??

      • Oh, most definitely! Wonderful idea. Sounds like it’s perfect for a collaborative work as you often do. One could write the long lines, and another might write the short ones!

You know, Bjorn it’s funny, when I was a young man, I had a friend, my age also, and we used to write some whimsical poetry sitting at the kitchen table or wiling away the hours at a coffee shop. I’d write a verse, then he, etc. I remember telling you that Collaboration is rare for me to do; particularly after having been soured on it while pursuing a second degree not all that long ago. Funny that this dusty old memory was pushed back so far I had almost forgotten it altogether.

My friend, I haven’t heard anything from him in many decades, was a seminary student; Reformed Anglican, if I remember correctly. They were a friendly and cordial lot, too, just like my old friend.
