Yawning in the lack
of daylight, wishing
our northerly nation
would have the knack
for proper kissing
in mutual hibernation:
always almost bedtime
sleepwalk and stumble
under overcast skies
with vitamins, enzymes
in need to mumble
and pleading we cry
JUST LET US SLEEP!

Today we do Quadrille with Mish at dVerse. The word is hibernation and it is 44 words as usual.

the capitals shout the longing – we humans are not made for so much darkness except for sleep
Indeed… we should sleep a lot more.
I know that ‘yawning in the lack of daylight’, Björn, although it is obviously worse the further north you live. I love the idea of ‘the knack for proper kissing in mutual hibernation’.
It is what we need— sleep it off
Interesting painting. I looked at it first before reading the poem and imagined the central blot as a nightmare. After reading it, I see it as insomnia. In the past year, I’ve started adding nettle to my evening tea blend. It gives me very sound sleep.
Nightmares cause insomnia so there is no different things here.
I’m sorry your nightmares are continuing.
Nice one
I teresting painting
🎄much love
Thank you
Oh I remember winters inTurku,-Åbo in Finland, and Haapsalu in Estonia…..it takes true grit…as yr verse says very clearly between the lines…I think I agree with those who said it was better in the north, adapt least they had guaranteed snow to brighten things…and you might as well have total night really then the early, early darkness..
Snow would make it so much better…. soon I will go north I hope
It must be very disorienting to have so much darkness. Five o’clock sunsets in winter are annoying enough where I am.
You will have to shave off 2 hours on each side to make it close to what we are having.
A good one Bjorn! Do you have to take vitamin D in the wintertime since you don’t have much sunlight?
I do take some vitamins but I also make sure I go out to capture what little daylight there is.
Great!
A perfect plea from beginning to end. Yes, let us sleep! Great poem, Bjorn.
We all need sleep.
Something to be said for tropical climes. The sheer weight of the heat slows you down and I’ve never slept better since moving here!
It should be possible to sleep with all this night… but alas
Sleep can feel illusive – I hope we can all learn to do so – and maybe even dream up some magical words – Jae
It works a bit… but it’s hard
Excellent poem Bjorn. Oh yes, all I want to do is stay under my covers. We haven’t seen sunshine in four weeks. I could totally relate to your words, so you did your job as a wonderful poet.
Even daylight is dusk
Illustration and poem go wonderfully well together!
It is always great to find artwork to go along.
I haven’t even opened the drapes for at least a week now…
Hibernation? Bring it on!!!
It does not make any difference anyway… so little light
yes, the grey skies make one want to sleep a lot. Seasonal Affective Disorder hits hard sometimes.
It is hard and getting harder
Winters get harder as you get older, I think. I don’t like winter at all.
I don’t mind cold, but I hate darkness
“lack of daylight” oh, I feel you there! It’s one reason we moved to AZ–to get out of the gloom. Snow does help, at least visually I think, in the winter–it brightens everything up. And oh my, sleep is so vital–I hope you get all you need.
I would love some snow… now it’s close to noon as I write this, but it feels like dusk
I cannot imagine a lot less daylight hours! It must be quite tough to endure.
We get back a lot of it in summer though
Love the Hodler art!! My son uses an artificial light lamp that helps with his seasonal affective disorder. Living in Minnesota, not as far north as you …. OH I also loved your poem. Happy Holidays in spite of the darkness and thank you for leaving me a comment.
It’s hard not to hibernate in such perpetual darkness. You bring that home to us in this Q.
