The myth of abundance

When abundance is given
in return
for sycophant praise
or pardon is given
to white collar thieves
in return
for a share of the loot,
or when handouts are given
only to those living
in cookie cut mansions
taken from deficits growing,
it’s not just corruption,
but a sign of the weakness
in an economy failing.

Today it is Open Link Night at dVerse hosted by me. You are also invited to a live event on Saturday at 10 AM New York time (which is 4 PM where I live in Stockholm). You may join us with any one of your poems, but if you lack inspiration you may write about abundance in any form you want.

  1. This is exquisitely drawn, Bjorn! 💙 When white-collar criminals receive pardons or lenient treatment, it often feels like a deep violation of public trust.

  2. The perfect poetic rant laying it out for all to grasp. Will we ever learn? I fear not … at least not in my lifetime.

  3. True stuff. Your poem reminded me of something that kind of always gets to me–how celebrities are gifted so much free stuff–furniture, clothing, meals, etc. just to gain their notice, favor and a hopeful recommendation. It kind of grosses me out when I think of those who are in actual need of those things.

  5. ha – Well said …I cannot believe all that is happening. Well, they say their corruption is okay as it is transparent. I have to wonder what will remain after another three years. No health insurance or food aide and many have lost the security of their jobs.
