what we are
from where we came
and where we soon may drown
life and death
past, present and future
water is
water was
water, an essence of us
from birth
to rot and decay
where we make love
what’s filling the trenches.in Ukraine
water,
water,
cerulean mirror
froth
of obsidian jaws swallowing sailors
reaper and mother
water,
end and beginning
snow and petrichor
water we are

Today Kim hosts dVerse poetics with the topic of the four elements, and my choice was water, thinking how much of our body is water it has to be what we are.

A powerful element of life and nature. These lines just soar in your poem:
reaper and mother
water,
end and beginning
snow and petrichor
water we are
Thank you… I enjoyed all the aspects of water.
This is exquisitely drawn, Bjorn! 💙💙 I agree, our body is made up of water so these lines resonate particularly;
“water, an essence of us
from birth
to rot and decay
where we make love
what’s filling the trenches.in Ukraine”
Yes water is omnipresent.
We both chose water, Björn! I love that you take us back to prehistoric times, how life emerged from water, and how water is ‘an essence of us’. I also love the phrase ‘cerulean mirror’.
I loved the contradictions of water…
Water we are. Maybe that’s why we’re so slippery with the truth. I love that image.
Indeed, liars we are
A verse that treads with philosophy then challenges with evidence,,,I like very much how that went,,,
It is what poets can do…. voice both sides of the mirror in simple language.
Fine, feral and foamy, Bjorn, spilling filling dowsing drowning in the tide which carries us from womb to tomb.
Indeed and we see how little respect it’s been given…. I am just waiting for the effect when Mar-a-lago is flooded.
One of the finer catastrophes of the century to come. Too late the sea will reclaim what was never his to own.
Dear Brendan,
Well said! It will be the watery end for the President of Flaw and Border.
Yours sincerely,

Ditto!
As much as it is a part of us, and we a part of it, one would think it would be given as much respect as you’ve shown here.
Water is not even given the respect of a resource.
Excellent
🙏🙏🙏
so many great lines, awesome poetry👍
That was fantastic, Bjorn! Water is everything!

Yes, we are… more water that solid matter it seems. Floods and torrents are also the water’s rage! Well done!
From water we come and to water we shall return.
Water gives and takes away, and engulfs, a force a mere human cannot control. Wonderful poem.
Bjorn, I really like how you mirrored water’s attributes in us.
“water, end and beginningsnow and petrichorwater we are”
And yet, we take it for granted. Love how you capture the dichotomy.
A powerful depiction of water with its clean and stagnant implications.
Great poem and an amazing picture.
Whilst reading your poem I started to wonder which element would be best to die from?
I want to slap tRump the way he is acting toward Ukraine.
We misuse the beauty of the natural world, forgetting that we are governed by it. We will all submit to it in the end.
You’ve captured the life-giving and death-ravaging effects of water so powerfully here.
