A righteous man

To be righteous doesn’t mean to be right but to be superior, a hero with a pale  skin to match.

October, and there you can see a very small patch of dark blue, framed by a little branch pinned up by a naughty star guiding me through sleazy streets, past dilapidated buildings, vacant windows staring.

From blind-alleys the faked moanings of vice commerce. I am needing followers, sinners had to be saved.

My knuckles whitened around the leadpipe, my sword. Tonight I saved the poor suited man, a victim fallen for the vile temptress.

After I crushed her skull I gave my best brimstone sermon to the sinning man and sent him home to his wife.

I am not the Lord, just a humble man, but like Sodom and Gomorrah, I rid the streets from sin.

Not in one blow, but one by one.

Kim hosted dVerse Prosery yesterday and I was late to the party. Here is my offering where I have incorporated:

“There you can see a very small patch
Of dark blue, framed by a little branch,
Pinned up by a naughty star”

From Rimbaud’s poem ‘Novel’.

  1. A chilling first person perspective of a righteous man, Björn. I like the way you set the scene in ‘sleazy streets’ with ‘dilapidated building’ and ‘vacant windows staring’. He’s scary!

  2. How cold and lonely that man is in his righteousness; I don’t know if I am sorrier for him or for the suited man he lectures in brimstone. You pull me right in to the mood of this Gothic offering. Poor old vile temptress.

  3. My stomach lurched at the mindset of this individual. You wrote him so well. A scenario that has been played out over millennia in one form or another.

  4. This character has a twisted mindset. I find it odd he killed her yet, sent him home to his wife. It takes two to tango. How righteousness serves is distorted in his mind is unsettling.
