Pilgrimage

We bonded over walking, wide and far
in endless summer and incessant light
we wandered miles and miles forgetting night
when over mountains, meadows, marsh we paired

We trekked in rain and storm, in weather fair
we followed valleys and we crossed the heights
we hid among the clouds, we toured the sights
we bonded over walking, wide and far.

We strolled with pilgrims and we grew aware
of how the road is like a book we write
each step a word, each sentence leads us right
when over mountains, meadows, marsh we paired

We bonded over walking, wide and far
we listened, tasted life from site to site
when over mountains, meadows, marsh we paired.

Two pilgrims
Vladimir Makovsky

Today we write Villonets at dVerse with Grace, which is a cross-over between a sonnet and a villanelle. I wrote it in haste and reused two lines from a sonnet I had written a while back.

  1. This is the sort of form in which slant rhymes come in handy, Björn. I love that you’ve written about your summer walk ‘in endless summer and incessant light’. I can’t imagine hiding among clouds – what a wonderful trek you had.

  2. I have not yet done a pilgrimmage (yet) but I admire how people/pilgrims bond over the journey, walking far and wide. I love the 3rd stanza best, with the road looking like the book we write, each word a step. Villonnet form looking good Bjorn.

  3. I am so happy the tale of your summertime hike got a well deserved encore //// in Villonnet form too. Thanks for leaving me a comment!
