Mariachi for myself

I mix tequila
triple-sec,
squeeze the lime
and let my finger
graze the glass-rim
salt it, serve
myself alone.

I imagine sea,
sounds of surf
the smoky scent
of barbecue
and music laughter,
yesterday
and far away

Summer smelled
of coriander leaves
but silence cuts tonight
with jalapeño claws
I sigh
but only cry
when chopping onions
with mariachi playing
to the walls

I prepare my food
tacos for the cold
shells and carnitas,
getting drunk
again
to at least pretend
tomorrow, white
that life was good.

Today we are writing poetry at dVerse to Melissa’s to celebrate the spicy Guacomolo day (guess what she serves at the bar). We should take inspiration from the recipe and include at least 4 from the following list of words: avocado, bunch, chop, cilantro, coriander, cumin, finely, fork, jalapeño, kosher, lime, mash, onion, pepper, raw, red, ripe, salt, seeds, serrano, shell, smoky, spice, squeeze, tomato, white, yellow

  1. I think you had a lot of fun with this one, Björn, and I enjoyed reading it. I really like these lines:
    ‘Summer smelled
    of coriander leaves
    but silence cuts tonight
    with jalapeño claws’.

  2. What a great use of the words….this poor sad guy crying over onions, eating alone. It reminds me of the cliche name for a guy like this, a sad sack.

  3. You fulfilled the brief fully Björn, I forgot to include all the foodie words and just wrote about avocados… Very tasty!

  4. I enjoyed the discussion about Generative AI last night and though I can see it is very similar to Midjourney, I must give Bing a try…
