In its twilight vastness
the librarian is often lost
among obscure editions
from unknown publishers;
among its shelves
the dust has settled
into layers and before
he finds familiar
books, he pines for
the amazement of
finally finding
those mythical maps
his predecessor hid.

Today De hosts the Quadrille at dVerse. The word is pine and it has to be included in a poem of 44 words.

How amazing it is to find those hidden mythical maps – that is an adventure. Loving the aged librarian series poem.
I think it may be the hunt for the map rather than the map itself that’s what is the adventure.
Ooooo! An intriguing start, indeed. I love maps, and would LOVE to hunt for old ones in a library.
I wonder if there is a poisonous book somewhere like there was in “The name of the Rose”
only if you lick your finger to turn the page lasciviously 😉
pining for the unseen – always good to revisit with the librarian
The library is full with secrets.
Oh, I didn’t expect the ancient librarian. This is a wonderful addition to the series! The twists of the library and the twists in his memories may be very similar.
I think he and the library lives in symbiosis
I think they do, too.
For some reason, this sent my mind right off to Hogwarts. 🙂 Glad that poor guy found the maps. Beautiful, Björn.
I think he is still looking for the map
Oh man I misread. Sorry, tired eyes. I hope he will get lucky then…
So he has found an old map. Is he going to give up being a librarian and go hunting list treasure?
Happy Monday
Much💖love
He is still lost in his in his a(maze)ing library
Reminds me of The Name of the Rose.
My library series is very inspired by Borges who in turn inspired Umberto Eco… and yes I thought a lot about his library too
who doesn’t love the search for unseen secrets? Great one Björn 🙌
Another mythical adventure waiting to happen, the old librarian’s search is on…with anticipation!
Aaah, the Librarian knows, the seeking is as much as its own treasure as the finding.
The rooms, mysteries, mazes to maps…..the possibilities are endless for the librarian (and you!). I like the idea of “pining for the amazement”.
Great to see the old librarian again… pining to find those lost maps.
Yes. A mystery and the maps…now our imagination gets to conceive of where they might lead.
I miss the Old Librarian, and now he has forgotten where he has hidden his stash. Sounds like me.
..
Absolutely love the librarian series and hope to see all of them together in a book some day!!!
It’s good to know that the ancient librarian is still wandering the shelves of his library, Björn, and that he:
‘…pines for
the amazement of
finally finding
those mythical maps’.
I hope he finds them.
I actually think he would be devastated if he ever found them
I love this poem and the discovery of mysterious maps would be wonderful. Obviously, there is a series I have missed. I will have to read the previous ones.
It is about an aged librarian… a kind of mysterious persona I use every now and then.
A beautiful use of the prompt! Very nice. ❤
I hope he finds them and goes on an adventure that makes him feel like a young boy 😄
A treasure hunt for maps within a library. What could be better? Thanks for keeping the librarian alive in your poetry.
Nice. Reminds of the library scene from the Indiana Jones movie: https://youtu.be/dvywOjh_hdY?si=eiC3zSnpj7ou0t9U
Your use of “pines” is perfect! The old librarian would 100% approve.
I think all of us are looking for those maps. (K)
