You asked me to be
present in your past,
being made aware
of your injustices.
You wanted
to be gracious,
and pardon those
who left,
but you never found
the time to ponder
our future, until
ungraciously alone
I left
you to your past.

Today Lilian hosts dVerse Quadrille and the word is present. We only are to make sure the poem contains exactly 44 words including the given word.

Ouch for the ending. Still it is a challenge to move forward when there is a lot of injustices in our past.
I understand… but probably those injustices keeps piling up
Well, here in the US there’s lots of talk of indictments and the possibility (heaven help us) of an individual in jail who still runs for president, wins and then pardons himself! UGH.
This is deeply poignant, Bjorn! Sometimes we have to let go and focus on the bigger picture 💙💙
Too big a burden to bear when past robs the future…artwork fits poem to a “T”!
Finding the artwork took a lot of time
It was worth the effort, i’d say 🙂
I like the wordplay in your quadrille, Björn, and the awkward ending!
I agree with Lynn. Perfect artwork. Sometimes the past doesn’t let us move to the present and future seems unimaginable. Excellent.
We never learn from history, and dwelling on the past is sterile. Meanwhile, the future is burning.
will we ever learn from our mistakes, it is a hard thing to do sometimes.
I had the same thoughts as Lillian with the current US situation, and with thoughts that Nixon should not have been pardoned.
Wow! Some kind of harsh reality there.
Happy Monday
Much💚love
Sounds like it is only as a perceived injustice that she can give him her attention. A very uncomfortable situation for some. Hoping he can now move towards what he needs. Excellent articulation of a messy situation.
p.s. That’s a troubling, and appropriate, image to fit the atmosphere of the poem.
Those skeletons will do that. It’s sad that sometimes we don’t realize what we have until it’s gone and becomes another skeleton in the past.
Excellent poem, Bjorn!
A compelling read.
It’s memory’s lane that leaves us stranded the most. I liked the narrative you created with just 44 words.
Some people never do make it to the present! Living in the past makes the present very difficult.
ungraciously alone
I left you to your past
There are points in our life that we have to take the hard decision eventually when things are not working to our expectation! Agreed Bjorn!

Really great play on words…the artwork accompanies the words brilliantly.
Sad ending, you captured the breakup perfectly.
Bjorn, you are welcome to my past, I’m leaving the key under the mat. The past, I delved into it day before yesterday, it was trouble for me with my YL, my ex was there, not for me, but for my ex. My little lady somehow worked the ex into it although I didn’t mention the ex at all.
..
A difficult thing to be interested in the past but to be ‘stuck’ there isn’t healthy. Nice message.
I am learning to leave the past back there
So very much hidden under the surface of these forty-four words …. well done!
A relationship that lives in the past, is not a good one.
I love how this can be understood in different ways! ❤

This works well, Bjorn. Love the match of the artwork.
If you don’t mind, Can telll me what inspired this poem?
