A cure for snores – a magic sonnet

She stirs the stifling stillness of the stars
with putrid pillage from a Viking’s grave
some moonlight caught behind the prison bars
and burning blisters from a galley slave

She adds a few myopic eyes of newt
and toenail clippings from our CEO
some howl of hoes and hungry hoots
the mournful cawing of a coward crow

She shakes her hips and stirs it widdershins
and pours it gently in Martini glass
this midnight cocktail, smoking of her sins
will make you sing and dance in magic sass

And when the morning comes you’ll crave for more
it’s simply just a witch’s cure for snores

Today it is Play it again toads, and I did one to Fireblossoms Magic prompt.. I also link this to Poetry Pantry

  1. Please, please, please send me some of that concoction. My husband is sure to enjoy it, and me, I’ll adore it.
What a fun read Bjorn. Love the imagination in this, but do wish there was such a thing to cure my husband’s snores.

  2. I love how the prosaic title contradicts the ominous and macabre overtones below it–sounds more like a cure for life being concocted. And, as a bonus, a very concise and perfectly executed sonnet to wind up the spell. Really enjoyed it, Bjorn. One of my very fave Odilon Redon images, as well.

  3. When you conjure, Bjorn, you don’t kid around! But toenail clippings? As long as I don’t have to hear it, I’d rather snore, ha ha ha. Fun, refreshing, and very, VERY Bjorn!! Amy

  4. this reminded me of the stories i read in my ‘myth and folklore’ class during college. also, wasn’t it the vikings who practiced with the runes? they were so vengeful and powerful, yet to practice prayer and speak to god with stones…i guess we all have a soft place inside us.

i actually have my own bag of runes. they are eerie in their accuracy most times.

    great poem.

  5. ha. how can you snore when all that action is going on…a bit of the CEO as well…some interesting elements to this one…and an intriguing character you have made of her…
