like blood is pumping through your veins
a drop of precious wine
lingers for the briefest moment
in limbo between consumption
and a kiss
but burning in the candlelight
it flickers
and like a precious stone
embedded in the river’s silt
slipping through my fingers
it’s washed away and gone
At Toads, Margaret shows some gems.. really very nice pictures to get inspired from. The red color of the Rhodochrosite inspired me.

Here is not a word wasted in the poetic expression. Each comparison builds to create the theme of life’s brevity. I really enjoyed your take on this prompt.
lovely, colorful (wine, blood, burning candlelight, kiss) images of a beautiful life (however brief).
Something that has been around for a long time can be gone in an instant… and something that is new might never even take hold. Love the “river’s silt” image. Excellent response – and I love this image – the beauty of it in person was overwhelming.
Fabulous work. Like Kerry said, not a wasted word.
Fantastic pace and imagery, every word fits so fluidly.
Bjorn, All the colors of red in the world. Beautiful photo. 🙂 —Susan

Too fast, too soon ~ I admire that color too Bjorn ~ And such a neat title, smiles ~
between consumption and a kiss . . . love that line, sensual.
