A short ode to a dead walnut

still a reminder
of Christmas past
breaking into
a treasure chest
of windled kernels
released in
crack crack sound
like that Tjajkovsky
suite where flower
waltz with children
my treasure hunt
for that dry
taste to eat
with mulled wine
and candle light
I fed you
brittle delicacy
of what I found
within
a nutshell
of my understanding

In a nutshell

In a nutshell

I couldn’t avoid writing a second entry for Victoria’s prompt… we still had some walnuts left from Christmas… hmm. and discarded shells might be time to part with…

  1. very cool that you wove tschaikovsky’s nutcracker in… love the music…and i also like how you take it a bit further than what the eyes see

  2. Ha, the question is how long are the walnuts good?? I have some things left over from Christmas yet too….makes me think I should either eat them or throw them out.

  3. Mulled wine and candles, you have painted another Swedish scene for us, Björn! Not that I am complaining. I like walnuts in cakes rather than on their own.

  4. within the nutshell of my understanding…ha…great closing line
i have cracked a few walnuts in my day…my grandfather used to have a bowl of nuts and a cracker on the living room end table….

  5. I would crack the walnut and then patiently remove all the brown skin. Ah..the blissful taste of pure walnut! As enjoyable as the music. 🙂
