your shining looks, a leer at me
as my ambitions crumble
you should give wings to exercise
but my intentions dwindle
it’s much too cold, it’s way too wet
November’s weather grumble
I’m still unfit, I cannot run
in colors far from humble
and as it’s getting dark outside
I probably will stumble
that cough is quite persistent
I will from fever tremble
and carefully I put you back
there’s nothing more to handle
it’s time to celebrate advent
and light the first of candles
Today at dVerse Shanyn wants us to share our shoe stories, My joggingshoes have not taken me to exciting places … yet. But they represent a kind of inward travel… hmmm. My hiking boots are probably more exciting. The bar opens at 3 PM EST, but I will be a little late (probably on Sunday) as I’m heading of to a concert.

ha Love it. The only running I do this time of year is inside on a treadmill.
ha. yes, its funny all the new years resolutions we make and by february they are gone…its hard to stay in rhythm this time of year as well…so many convenient excuses to get out of exercising….
A fun write. A little bit of laziness creeps in during winters. 🙂
I loved the ending.
ha smiles… yes…light that candle and let the jogging shoes rest until it’s spring again… maybe they don’t like the cold weather as well..you know…and are thankful for their warm and dry place..smiles
This made me smile really. I am sure your jogging shoes will be patient though. It seems one can find many reasons not to exercise in winter. I identify…even my DOGS are suffering from the winter chill.
I can relate to your lack of enthusiasm Björn! Winter months are not the best for running.
How I relate to this…much to my dogs’ chagrin. Happy, blessed Advent, Bjorn. My favorite liturgical season.
Good piece Bjorn. Well done. I never will understand runners. >KB
“you should give wings to exercise
but my intentions dwindle” – wonderful effect. Loved your poem like always.
Thanks first, & always, for reading this to us; it just brightens the experience of poetics immensely. Nice use of the prompt, and the form, sir–always a treat to come over here/there and discover what treats you have for the rest of us.
Appropriate tone for reading this “I cannot” poem. Lovely and universal …
Feeble excuse 🙂
You can walk with a flashlight – I love walking in the dark. Actually, when it is really foul outside, I walk in the house and clock up 4 miles going round in a figure of eight. Inward travel indeed. By that time the rain will have stopped and I can do the rest outdoors.
You can walk
Shoes have excuses, too, eh? Love it, Bjorn.
Bjorn, sometimes we just have to make time for those shoes..smiling
This is a lovely poem! The form is nice. And you let the reader wonder what on earth you are thinking of (the poem isolated from the dVerse prompt and the pair of shoes pictured). The ending is splendid, giving the choice you make religious. I love it!

Love this one – have seen you on DVerse before – but today I have joined the challenge – my favourite line;
a leer at me
as my ambitions crumble
I enjoyed this Bjorn, thankfully for me my November/December now has been very pleasant, a little wet but lovely.
Ahh… Sweden is a place of November dread… It’s probably been a good November though…
Weather permitting, so they say! Well it can wait. Chuckles! Like the wit Bjorn!

I think if I owned shoes that looked that ALIVE, I might have to force myself outdoors. However, I’m with you – best stay indoors and light the candles:)
Oh yes hard to get out on those cold winter mornings but yes they are rather cool looking shoes!
It’s funny, how we sometimes trying to save new…shoes here..I wish you to give the shoes the work – walk no matter what…cheers!
Alas, my sneakers have met the same fate. Beautifully written ode to the excuses of not exercising.
Yes, we lit the first candle this morning. Only a little while now to the winter solstice when it is dark at 6pm… then we gain the light again gradually. I know its a long, long night for you in winter.
Oh we have darkness at 3PM at winter solstice 🙂
I have to confess that my hiking boots would have many more tales to tell, as would my riding boots, than running shoes. I only run when being chased! ha ha Thanks for sharing this for poetics! 🙂
running – who runs? 😉 Nice piece and thanks for the vocals – always a treat and I like hearing how everyone calls their different footwear – runners, jogging shoes…thanks BR and hope you feel better soon.
my shoes were mostly unused too this past weekend:)
hope you are better now
ahh the best of intentions…thankfully our shoes very patient friends. I do like this poem very much. That first stanza is sparkling.
Very nice to listen to the poem, Björm
Sorry I mean of course Björn!
Listening to you reading your lovely poem was indeed quite an experience! Thank you for making my day, Bjørn! Tusen takk skal du ha! Granny Kari
