dancing words that echo –
repeat and tie themselves
into the knots that keep me here
immobilized just like a deer
that’s trapped inside the beacon
from the headlights of my car
dancing words that beat
on empty metal canisters
like jack-hammers of the morning crew
that wake me up at 5 AM
dancing words of reason
unreasonable refrain contained
in a black rose with thorns
withered from resentment
dancing words you said
I mull them over,
encapsulated in my misery
and then you smile
untying all my knots
& releasing the words

Human Misery by Paul Gaugain

pretty cool how a smile…a gesture will break through where the words sometimes just dance around….we cant hear them caught up in our own mess til a little light breaks through…
Sometimes nothing more is needed….
Sometimes dancing words can be really hard to get rid of, but a smile from the right person can render them powerless to harm. I like the message in this poem, Bjorn!
there are these little things that matters.. a smile… a sign to break that circle…
Ha! At the moment this is so appropriate for me! Thank you Bjorn.
smile I hope
I like these images. I can see this situation, words dancing like banshees, relentless. It’s like an argument with a spouse, with a little relief at the end.
Indeed – that was my thought
A strong, yet sentimental piece this, Bjorn. Too often our words precede thought, consideration, candor–lovely that your close, your resolution is upbeat. Technical note, brother, couple of typos leads to confusion for reading; me for my, etc–but your excellent recitation clears it all up. This happens to me often, as I tape the reading, I find the errors missed while writing; thanks.
Ah thank you – typos happen
I can relate to this so well. Words can be a distraction to the main message – sometimes it just takes a gesture, or a smile… lovely.
Thank you Freya… this capture those feelings that can come sometimes…
I like that turn in the ending ~ A lovely smile to untie knots and release the words ~
I will listen to your read later ~ Happy OLN Bjorn ~
Ah.. happy Tuesday Grace
We too easily overlook the power of words. I used to be told to remember that sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. My experience, and that of countless others, is that that simply isn’t true. Thankfully a kind gesture can say so much more …
The words can hurt — one also say that the pen is mightier than the sword… and can hurt a great deal… usually the remedy exist… and it could be a simple gesture, a touch or a smile…
the magic of that smile!
Really liked this one. Just goes to show that sometimes the best way to say something is to say nothing at all.
Words are so powerful and I love these lines…dancing words of reason
unreasonable refrain contained
in a black rose with thorns
withered from resentment…great ending how you turned it around.
It’s so nice to be able to get past those words and find that place where you can smile again. I love the note of hope this ends on.
I too love the end note of hope here. Great work and thanks for the laugh on your translation of source code :D.
The smile of another soul is so healing.
“By small and simple things are great things brought to pass…”
So true.
Yes words are unpredictable, uncanny and leave us guessing always, until they are spoken from the right voice. Then all is clear. Nice work.
I too put deer in headlights! How wonderful that your narrator has someone to untie the knots of misery and release the words.
Wow! Words are really powerful and they can make one miserable. I resonated with your verses and the entire feel of it.
And that ending is beautiful… the release. What all a single smile can do!?
Isn’t it wonderful how all the misery evaporates with a simple smile or hug. Why is it so easy to hurt the ones we love most?
The 5 am part really got me. Those words dance in my head at that hour all the time!
Such beauty in how you release the angst of the first part of your poetry.
Words dancing around..ouch black rose with thorns..glad there was release in a smile..I am enjoying these audio’s of yours
Bjorn, I really like the rhythm of your thoughts here. (may I humbly say the grammar trips me up? as in “echo” and “beat” ?) my inner editor gets tied up in knots over small things but this poem makes me SMILE!
Ah – those verb-forms always verb forms – thank you (-:
the power of a smile. Wonderful!
A smile can always work magic…lovely dance!
Very nice. Wonderful ending! 🙂
Sometimes words create a life of their own and pull us away from what really matters. I enjoyed this. 🙂
Looks like we both had to post our voice this week. I liked hearing you read it. Your accent added almost a lilt to the words that I liked.
As a person with absolutely no smiles..for years…finding them certainly does bring back the keys to many puzzles of desperation…
Word!!hmm they can hurt and heal too .
I like my words to dance, but a smiling reader who unties the knots is to be prized above rubies.
A smile is worth a thousand words. it can break even the hardest of wills so to speak.Great thoughts Bjorn!
Hank
So good – love those dancing words and their freedom!
Wonderful poem and the ending had a special effect. It was nice of you to have put your recording as well.
A sincere smile is very powerful.
