Cancelled award ceremony

Floor
He wondered who had eaten out of the cat’s litter box — with his mouth.
Vague memories from last night flashed on his retina. It had been a bacchanal for sure, but they were there to celebrate him. An award ceremony, when he finally would receive some recognition for all his years of writing.
Gradually he regained consciousness feeling cold marble. He shivered.
Opening his eyes he saw the whole audience looking at him. It was amazingly silent. When the TV-crew captured the famous author lying naked on the floor he realized:

“Sometimes 15 minutes of fame is enough”

Trifecta this week is 99 words and selecting a word from page 99 of OED. My choice was bacchanal. Partly after looking through some of my pictures. Given there is a lot of talk about Nobel prize gave me the inspiration.

  1. HUGE points for using bacchanal. I wanted to use it so bad but it just didn’t work for me.

    good one

  2. Or maybe this is the beginning of his fame…because with the way we handle celebrities lately, this would be consider a “good moment”

I giggled and gasped…all good stuff from you. 🙂

  3. God, how beautiful is the word, bacchanal? I don’t know, that footage would probably make him more famous here in the states, afterall he’s walking in the shoes of some very famous writerly boozehounds.

  4. Love the prompt you chose and how it fits into this highly enjoyable story. Your opening line had me in stitches. Thanks for linking up and tell everyone to join us!

  5. As always, a top notch take on the prompt! And (not that I have ANY experience in this whatsoever), but the first line was a spot-on description of the feeling.

  6. Part of me has to question the mindset of someone who conjures up the opening line that you did! 🙂 Wow! If one line can win a whole challenge, that line may just have done it! Fantastic effort!
