Still waters – tanka for real toads

in still waters
of the village pond
water lilies thrive
reflected in her eyes
lover’s kiss still lingers

When I saw that Real Toads had an article about tanka, I thought I must try that. Tanka for my me represent a mystery, but I still always appreciate the beauty of simplicity. In Swedish tanke is a word that means a thought which I find an interesting coincidence.

  1. I am also fascinated by the way the word links up in two languages. Tanka seems to me very much about capturing fleeting thoughts and producing them over in a few lines on a page. I find the scene you describe in your tanka to be very tranquil and appealing.

  2. You have captured the serenity of the still pond ~ The ending about reflections: eyes & kiss, is nice turn around & made it personal & mysterious ~ Lovely tanka Bjorn & thanks for your visit as well ~ Grace

  3. Oh, I almost did my tanka on water lilies. Such a romantic image, it lends itself well for this poetry form. This is lovely. Interesting that tanka means thought in Swedish … exactly that, a single thought or image 🙂
