The task at Carpe Diem is to distil a haiku out of this poem by Prince Genji
The evening sky itself
becomes something to cherish
when I gaze at it,
seeing in one of the clouds
the smoke from her funeral pyre

Flood at Nantes by Gustave Loiseau
to clouds that linger
mingling with the pyre’s ash
I bid her farewell

A beautiful painting with a beautiful haiku… check this out!
Also, sorry for the absence these days, college has been driving me into a corner in terms of time, so posts have been delayed. Also, I’m switching to only mondays and fridays now. I’ll be doing reblog wednesdays now. 🙂
That is a great distillation… essence captured in this haiku. 🙂
Told with grace at your place

Beautifully done.
a feeling of dark sadness…
Excellent! poem!
The tune of your words makes me smile because this is what poetry should be. 🙂
Wonderfully distilled haiku Bjorn you caught the essence of the poem from the Tale.
Very tender and very sad. Clouds and fire have a strange relation: fire makes smoke, it looks like clouds and clouds hold water, which puts fire out… ‘mingling with the pyre’s ash’ is really impressive.
PS. Some error came by the first time I tried to post this. So, if I DID post it and this is a repetition, I am sorry. Feel free to delete my second comment 🙂
Beautiful.
A moving tone to a loved one. Great distilled outcome Bjorn!
