Remember falls in fall – for dVerse

I do remember
falling towers of
September
the orange clouds
against cerulean blue
a fall that changed the world
forever

I do remember
Lehman Brothers
in September
of future’s gone
– foreclosure end
a fall that made us
anxious and it lingers
still forever

I do remember
transformation into grey
as September
ends and darkness
falls into the fall

I do remember
that energy is lost
as in September
my skins will pale
as summer bronze is gone
a fall into depression

I do remember
when fragrance of
September
change from nectar
into decay of fall

I don’t remember
that after
sweet September
comes wet October
then the dark November
and finally
the icicle December

I don’t remember
that it’s getting worse
before I see the light again

In dVerse today Karin has us to write about “I remember” and “don’t remember”. The poem above is more a sketch than anything finished. I will be out with friends when the pub opens at 3 PM EST. Have fun.

  1. ah if we can only seize the moment and appreciate what it is for, even the decay and how it plays into the new life in spring as much as the long silent sleep of winter…the towers, sadness at that memory…it is the month my wife was born, so there is that…smiles…

  2. I enjoyed all the September memories you shared here. I don’t like to remember how September turns to October to November and cold December, and what a long time it will be before another transformation to spring. Ah yes, and the twin towers….that anniversary I remember strongly as well!

  3. I am deeply affected by lack of natural light, so can really relate… especially to:

    I do remember
    that energy is lost
    as in September
    my skins will pale
    as summer bronze is gone
    a fall into depression

  4. It was cool that you included both the memories and the lost memories in the same poetic; making it more fleshed out, more complex & interesting. Those of us who’ve never even visited Sweden probably cannot fathom the loss after a short summer as your gird your loin for the bitter bite of Winter. Nice take on the prompt; really liked it.

  5. Well-written…
I like the chill of the winters much more than the warmth of summers but that is me.
I like the way you weave your words into a stunning piece.

  6. while I completely understand not wanting to remember it gets worse before it gets better, once the worse hits remembering what’s to come is sometimes all that we have to make it through. a very nice sketch of September’s Fall.

  7. You stirred many of my September memories – some wondrous others not – I always seem to sink into dark November and have a terrible time freezing in December my depression gets the better of me during the winter months. Excellent movement of memories.

  8. What a poem. Like a timeline for the darkness of September, the fading summer into fall. Wow this is powerful and reminds me that winter is coming, but after comes spring and the light returns. It will return!

  9. i like the skilful way you take us through the paces… & it’s probably a good thing not to remember what comes after September -. the rain, the ice, the felt lack of light – with luck (or love) there’s always something that will pierce the dark

  10. Well, the opening line hit me hard… I do so remember. And all you write is true about September – but yet it and October are my favorite times of the year – I guess she has a bit more to offer 🙂

  11. the falling towers – lehman brothers – the crash – the leaves – lot of things falling – ugh… def. not looking forward to november which for me is the most difficult month because it’s so grey except from my daughter’s birthday – that cheers me up a bit in this…

  12. I see the other side as we in September have Spring and blossoms on the trees and then..soon our skins will bronze. The first line… something none of us will ever forget. Well written BR.

  13. Ah, I remember as well September being a time of change as we head into the winter months..I long to have summer linger and feel the warmth upon my skin.

  14. I recently saw a painting of the Manhattan skyline when the towers were still there. What a tragic loss. Vivid imagery and memories of September. I like the ending … seeing the light again … there is hope.

  15. I’ve read many of your poems now and for today, this is my favorite. I love how you went through months, moods and expectations. And like with most art, we love something because it just strikes us. Your poem struck me.

  16. I like the ryhthm of this and can relate to the seasonal blues…especially when it first changes to fall. One can’t help but remember lonely or sparse times..they are more pronounced and last for months into the spring….harder to dig out of one’s depression as life seems so cozy and rosy for so many much of the time. Sensitive
write. Good opportunity to try new things I suppose, or maybe just move to the tropics 😉

  17. I don’t remember
    that after
    sweet September
    comes wet October
    then the dark November
    and finally
    the icicle December…

we so have something in come and you said it so beautifully

  18. I would die if I was forced to survive a northern hemisphere winter. I think the inhabitants must have enormous reserves of strength to survive the oncoming gloom I suppose poetry would help with that a lot, Bjorn.
