Today In Carpe Diem the kigo is Yuunagi (Evening lull). So well chosen since I have a very nice evening on the balcony here. Tomorrow we have midsummer’s eve, which is a holiday and we have just shared a bottle of Champagne.
An Evening Lull
by Walt Whitman
After a week of physical anguish,
Unrest and pain, and feverish heat,
Toward the ending day a calm and lull comes on,
Three hours of peace and soothing rest of brain.
evening lull
at solstice end of week
rest my brain
rest my brain
birds bring evening lull
on my balcony

Peaceful.
Very 😉
peace, perfect peace 🙂
It is … couldn’t be better.
Awwl, this is very good. Very good indeed and it makes me smile because I remember googling “evening lull” for any kind of photo or words–anything for inspiration and Whitman’s poem appeared.
And he helped me out again, Mr. Whitman did. I pulled out the word “rest” and the rest is history.
His poem was a perfect fit for me 😉
P.S. is it midsummer already? Seems so soon.
Midsummer night eve is tomorrow. and solstice too.. so yes…
I also added the poem of whitman..too lovely not to share
Google is a good help. And here it’s like Friday on a Thursday 😉
I love this soothing poem, rest my brain is what I do in the evening and I love it.
Thank you .. and a great inspiration from Whitman 🙂
What a lovely image of part of your garden. I’ve been in the garden a lot today also tending to an apparently abandoned fledgling. So again we have similar haiku. Our lull is when the birds leave at sundown. Resting brain is lovely thought.
A balcony in the evening…a perfect place to enjoy the lull!
When those birds bring that evening lull, do they carry it in their beaks or in their talons?
Evening Lull
Yes! The birds sound different in the evening! Like parents coaxing small children to sleep with a soft song! I enjoyed my(virtual) visit to your balcony(Nice wine too) Thank you !Evening Lull
Enjoy your Summer Solstice, just after we celebrate our Winter one 🙂
Yuunagi Uluru
Birds in evening lull …. lovely image.
this greenery
& chirping birds
my mind rests
on cushion of time stalled
What a coincedence … as was preparing this episode I ran into the same poem, but I didn’t use it. Awesome to see that there are more participants who have used the poem by Whitman or were inspired by it. Nice set of haiku Bjorn. Thank you for sharing. BTW: I have looked at dVerse and read something more about sedoka, not really my kind of poetry, but I think I will try it sometimes.
Very nice and restful. Just what I needed.
An evening at the balcony for me right now to the music of singing birds
Nice. Enjoy. 🙂
