Carpe Diem haiku prompt is Hotaru (Firefly), I missed yesterday’s prompt, and I will probably not have the time to catch up.

Fireflies by Erte
guiding light
leads my solitary way
into the woods
the darkness
after fireflies have left
is twice as deep
peaceful rest
waiting for the dawn
or fireflies

submerged
in the sea of fireflies
I notice glitter of her eyes.
That second one is just stunning!
In late 70s on an excursion with my father & his friend in a horse driven carriage we arrived at an open field. Soon it was twilight & then one by one fireflies appeared & settled everywhere. For nearly 45 minutes there were fireflies; millions in numbers all around. They even settled on our bodies, garments, horse’s tail everywhere. Causing no harm. The light emitted was so great that one could read a newspaper!! I still carry that memory razor sharp in my mind. I share this unique experience to offer better depth to what I have written in the three lines above. Twinkle in eyes!!
This together with your haiku forms an awesome haibun… 🙂
I am lucky to have the space to enjoy the dancing of the fireflies. They are my signal that summer has returned.
Erte’s illustration reminds me of Peter Max.
Love the second haiku – the darkness being twice as deep, such a clear image (or not).
Beautiful, Bjorn!
All are so beautiful, Björn! I do love the second one too about the darkness. So contemplative.
Very nice set Bjorn–enjoyed them all…love that image as well.
these are exceptional. I too loved the 2nd one the most. I liked being enveloped in double darkness.
These are all wonderful, but I’m dawn to your second especially.
It is amazing how many people these days have never truly seen the stars because of the light pollution from our cities & suburbs.
Hotaru
So much darkness—an opportunity for the firefly to shine even more brightly!
Fireflies and Fences
Well-crafted haiku. They capture the very essence of the moment. I particularly liked the second one.
Awesome series Bjorn and … several others have said that already, but they are all right (I think), that second haiku is a masterpiece.
Beautifully done; Bjorn. The second one has so much depth
Your words are peaceful and enjoyable…I love
“the darkness
after fireflies have left
is twice as deep”
Thank you,
Peace,
Siggi
