with deliberation I let my steely eyes
slowly trace the blue line of the horizon
while I sit down on the smooth rock
polished to a silken smoothness
by a gargantuan glacier gone
I caress the blushing granite
and think that maybe
I should learn to paint
capture this in prussian blue
and bold splashes of vermilion
on canvas or with watercolour
to be future treasured keepsake
but I take a snapshot and forget
I lay down on the sun-warm rock
listen to the waves and gulls
I vow to learn to play guitar
composing symphonies
or at least a little song
become a poet
another day
or so
velleity and volition is Anna’s theme for MTB at dVerse today. How nice to procrastinate a little.

smiles…nature does just that to me…i wanna sing, paint, write, dance…the longing to express the beauty and how she makes us feel… i used to do a bit of watercolor painting…and really think about digging the colors out again…smiles
but in the end it’s enough to just take a snapshot.. I wrote this based on googling the words too…
Ah yes, but the camera doesn’t do vermillion unless you put it there first…
that’s the difference.
smiles…i like…i have dipped my quill in both watercolor and in guitar…and think in many ways the arts interact and enhance each of them…dont think you have to worry on becoming a poet….ha…cool bit of concrete in your poem as well…
Thank you.. I have never played guitar, but I dabbled with watercolor. but now it’s just enough to take snapshots.
Lovely flower vase you have carved with your words:)
Good it was a flower vase… I thought it looked like a bomb first
Wonderfully written. Nature does that to me too … Only if there was a way to bottle up that feeling and take small doses everyday, I’d do and become so many things! Only if
Indeed.. but those ambitions are still so important, and just maybe one can take one or two of those little ambitions and bottle up… 🙂
..a snapshot many times is the best way to capture a moment, in itself an art form; love the idea of lying on the smooth rock and listening to the waves and gulls…you really took me there, Bjorn.
To me those polished rocks are much more comfortable than any beach… It’s a wonderful way of being there
nice form 🙂
A slightly different form… 🙂
A great response to the prompt. Usually I don’t read until I’ve written my own, but this time reading first has at least cleared my head!
Thank you, I look forward to read yours later.
Perfect use of the velleity prompt, and I like the abandon you had for stanza & punctuation. The words on a page, freed from the cortical fissures, is always a second form of the art, and one appreciates the fun you both had in its creation & sharing; thanks.
I have started to find joy in this way.. it’s a creative way of writing, a little bit different type of form poetry.
“or at least a little song'” how lovely that is, thanks, Kevin
Thank you 😉
Ameliorates the heart and invigorates the mind, beautifully captured!
Thank you Anna, wonderful prompt
Beautiful interaction with the world here (and I love your fish, too!)
Thank you .. It’s fun to go fishing.
Procrastination is nice indeed! Go ahead and give a try to painting and guitar playing–you have the poetry thing down already. Great work!
Painting maybe… still to come
You paint and sing with your words:)
Thank you 🙂
I always feel like this when surrounded by nature, you capture it so well here a painting of words. Lovely!
Thank you, the nature has that effect.
And yet whatever art we select can only imitate that experience. The experience is for one time only, and how precious it is. Great shape poem : )
What a wonderful interpretation of my poem.
You made me want to lay on that rock and soak up rays. The sun stirs so many wantings behind closed eyes. Enjoy the spot in the sun while it’s here.
It’s not yet time, it’s way to cold. But the polished rock by the sea are like paradise to me.
Beautiful write, Bjorn. I could hear the waves and seagulls, feel the ocean spray and warm sun, and thought, “Yep. Shoulda learned to play the guitar. Me and Bjorn could start a band.
A band great idea… could I play chainsaw?
Well like the heckler used to yell at me when I’d ask if there were any requests: “Yes! Can you sing far far away?”
As long as your not near me, you can play the chainsaw!
This is so serene Bjorn.
I savoured every line, every word of it.
Beautiful!
Thank you 😉
The sea is so inspiring always!
Beautiful write from start to finish..nature is such a source of inspirational power as it helps us create. Just lovely..
Thank you so much 🙂
