the ways we met were manifold
at city squares and crossing roads
but those were ways from days of old
the ways we met were manifold
today in cyberspace so cold
the meeting’s in computer codes
the ways we met were manifold

My journey into blogging started in twitter. There are plenty of daily word-games were you can write every day. One of them is called artwiculate and the other day the word was manifold. I wrote a simple quatrain that gained some traction, today for dVerse OLN I present it expanded to a triolet. I think I’ve found plenty of warmth online though, but also some trolls intended to destroy.

  2. Lots of meaning here. Cyberspace really has changed the ways that people meet. In some ways it is more impersonal, but it allows us to meet people that we would never meet if we had to rely on city squares and crossing roads! Enjoyed your triolet!

  4. What a very intriguing piece of writing. Unfortunately true. I think, I would have preferred the old ways…

      • Well, Canada is not over populated either…but, face to face far exceeds virtual connections in many ways. But, of course, the diversity and finding people of similar interest (poetry & writing) is much easier in the virtual world. They become a part of your world perhaps more often.:)

      • I have met only 2 persons for real that I knew from internet, it was awesome. We connected immediately ans just sat in a bar for hours talking… but we would never have met for real otherwise I think..

  5. i agree…there are many wonderful people i have met along the way…some great friends came from online and i have had the chance to meet quite a few now…one of our poets is staying at my house for a week this summer…which is way cool…but there are some trolls for sure..the internet is def a double edged sword…

    • Had an experience on twitter with a troll who attacked many persons (including me) with the purpose to take down a word-game on twitter (which partly succeeded) a very long story that affected many people I consider friends.

  7. Blogging has changed my life, ha ~ It is definitely easier to connect in the internet because of shared likes and interests ~ Now, its as warm as a familiar friend/s ~

  9. yeah..there are trolls and kings…like in every game…really i have met many wonderful people on the net and had the chance to meet some of them in person already…and it really was like meeting old friends..so cool

  10. So very true – modern ‘friends’ are hard work. They only visit you if you visit them. No-one asks how you are if you don’t post for a fortnight. Love going shopping on a Sat morning and visiting as many small shops (and people) as possible.

  13. Bjorn: Are you making this triolet extra difficult for yourself, or have I been making mine to easy? You seem to have more reps that I thought were required. But I get quite confused on forms, after having done so many last month 🙂

  15. Women used to say: Why don’t you love me for my mind? Now the tables are turned, because the internet is a mind to mind connection…if you ever do meet that person, you might be saying: Why don’t you love me for my body?

  19. You used the form so well… Technology is changing us, and the way we live our lives, but yes, there are pros and cons to that.

  22. Very interesting poem and as you mentioned cyberspace has a rather formal milieu. But as others have said poetry is an uncommon pursuit and without the net communities opportunities for meeting others who are interested in form and verse is unlikely..I am sure friendships are established privately because so many poets provide email addresses on their blogs.

I have so many very dear friends who are now spread all over the globe that I can’t help but see the upside to Internet communication, and meeting poets is a wonderful thing, in person, or online. But, the ways we meet are certainly changing! I like how this poem encourages reflection on the subject.

  24. Face to face vs. virtual friendships? Well, obviously face to face is better, but thanks to the internet I have friends all over the world that I would never have ‘met’ any other way: friends like you, Bjorn … smiles. Perhaps I will make it to Sweden one day – it’s not too far for me, just very expensive on arrival; perhaps you will visit my beautiful home country of Scotland and we can meet for real that way.

    • Ah thank you for fixing it, and I agree with the meeting. My only experience of ever meeting someone was very exiting.. it seemed you knew them already from start and in many cases much better than those you’ve met face to to face. And I look forward to the first time I get visitors here in Stockholm. 🙂

  26. Very nice, Bjorn. I’ve always been amazed at those who attempt to tear others down. And on the Internet, they can do it from behind the curtain of anonymity.

  27. Nicely done, Bjorn! I started with writing prose! But unfortunately there’s only so much one can write before writer’s block presents itself. Luckily numerous prompts make poetry writing much simpler.

  28. Cyberspace may be cold, but actually meeting people adds warmth !!
    Prudence and caution should still be exercised !! But without the internet I never would have had a chance to interact with all the amazing poets/poetess like the ones I’ve met at dVerse Poet’s Pub !! Great use of form !!
