Carpe Diem haiku – Pigeon haibun

The prompt pigeon on Carpe Diem was hard to write about yesterday, I was really tired. I decided however to create a haibun to compensate for my tardiness.

Pigeons by Wilhelm Kotarbinski

On tired feet, the old lady walks down to the city square to meet her pigeon friends. For a small offering of bread crumbs they bring her back to the days of her youth and the sweet morning when the homing pigeon brought her the message from her young lover. Now alone, she can still recall the sweet spring months they spent together before he was sent to the front, and she was left alone with her pigeons. Now after many years of grief, she is finally at peace with herself.

for bread crumbs
pigeons coo the memories
of youthful love

  1. You are so talented with your many forms of writing. Such beauty and emotion flow from you. I still don’t know a haiku from the other forms.
