I’m off my blogging for a week or so. And if you’re interested. I have left you with a poem for a dead rat I passed in the street today

I know that rodents
such as rats are there
but rarely they are visible
they said that normally
the sewer population is
much larger than we think
they feed on everything
we left
we didn’t like
or couldn’t take
the Happy meal
rejected by the child
(she kept the toy)
the pizza that
a teen-age boy
couldn’t keep inside
the rodents feed and feed
and multiply
but grandad rat — he died
and there he was
like trash he fed upon

ugh rats! Been too close to several, but they seem man’s truest companion. If dogs are our best friend, rats are our mirror.
you may want to change the last line from feed to fed to get the tense correct.
when you use “are there” “are visible” you are using a passive verb, and your words sound more powerful when you use active verbs. For example – “are there” might be exist, or “they are visible” might be “but rarely seen” or rarely discovered.
still — a fine tribute to the deceased fellow!
Thank you. I wrote this on my mobile passing in and out of coverage. I made the correction at the end to fed.
Nice epitaph for a rat…I found one in one of my roof downspouts after a long summer without rain/water…he must have survived on that until he could no longer
I never say poor rats.. But they are amazing, and we feed them well.
We will miss you. 🙂
Just a week or so
Have a good trip and keep writing 🙂
We’ll see
Enjoy your time off – loved the 2nd stanza. 🙂
Thank you… Slipping out of coverage
I award you ( and rightly so..)
