He was approaching the goal for all his years of planning.
His sacrifices where soon to be rewarded with just
one last little climb to the peak.
He sat down on a stone,
and thought about Charlotte,
her never ending support that he finally brooke
and then the end in
divorce.
He thought about the absence at father’s funeral,
and the hard words that made his mother cry.
All the years of solitude getting ready for this expedition.
He looked upward, tracing and memorizing the line for his final climb.
He could do it.
He should do it…
Then, sighing, he rose,
and as he turned his back to the ominous peak,
he knew he was a free man.
reaching goal
always has a prize
worth to pay?

Ooh, thanks for the heads-up, Bjorn. Will look for that.
Brilliant!! Just brilliant. I have been there. Actually feel what you wrote, been there physically and mentally. Wonderful work. Great photo too.
I have been spared, I have felt the pull, but probably been to lazy which has saved me. But I see people around me doing the same. And haibun was such a good form to express it in.
Wow!
