Shared with dVerse on bright shadows, picture is from Swedish mountains last summer.
In setting sun a golden flow
I sit and see the truth behind
in shadows on the mountainside
reveal the truth within myself
A slowly moving scenery
of shadows moving interplay
like Plato’s cave it tells me why
reveal the stories in myself
My yin and yang a battle fight
Apollo slowly looses grip
and shadows gently growing now
ignite the dreams within myself
In shadows of the nights I see
the monsters of my daily deeds
regretting things I said and done
I must repay within myself

Superb.
Thank you 🙂
first…love the mountain pic.. and the images in the poem work really well together…not easy when we’re confronted in the shadows with the things we’ve done and said..good to know that daylight waits just round the corner..
🙂 thank you
Repaying for our deeds … well said !!!
Nightmares are often that.
Yes, in the shadows of night what one did during the day is again relived. So very true. And, I like the idea of having to repay at night what one did during the day. Makes a person much more careful during the day, I would say. Smiles.
At least one might hope that.
Reflecting on the day, repenting and seeing truth there too.
Cool pic
Thank you Sabio.
We all love the picture! Such a different landscape. But the poem is terrific. I love the use of Plato’s cave here–a kind of reversal with truth coming instead of illusion – and then the light losing out and the replaying of the dark side of one’s day/conduct. It’s very simply but well done. k.
Many thanks 🙂
“In shadows of the nights I see the monsters of my daily deeds”
I love this line. Terrific.
Thank you 🙂
The last staza really sticks with me… this is great!
Thank you. Yes the night is a time of regret…
nice…i like your reflection on the day and need to forgive in yourself…i think that truly important….i like how the shadows ignite your dreams as well…more often shadow is portrayed as evil but you have gotten a bit of both sides of it…
Thank you Brian. I thought a little bit on the interplay between apollo and dyonysis for other reasons… A little bit yin and yang.
Great poem, love the mythology references, great pic too
Thank you so much.
i like how apollo loses grip and we descend into the world of shadows
hades gate
Thank you. Yes Apollo is a bearer of light.
yeah, i Know that, that’s why i like that metaphor
Bjorn I’ve linked it as you said – quite scary because I’ve never posted a poem to a poetry group before! Thank you for the idea!
I have only done it a few times except with haiku… Writing stories with a poetic voice is similar as writing poetry.
A superb write specially the last stanza ~ It speaks to me very deeply ~
Thank you, and i deeply beleive that you sleep worse on bad deeds.
Those things we regret do tend to bring shadows drifting across from time to time and then wait for the light….terrific poem.
It’s always worse in the night, thank you for visiting.
I understand this …I think it is why there is such a thing called ‘redemption’..?
Very true 🙂
This is particularly fine. The evening review of the day’s deeds, or lack of them, is truely valuable to the building of character.
I find that if I don’t do it, my dreams will handle it in terms of nightmares.
Stunning piece … I loved these two lines in particular …..
In shadows of the nights I see
the monsters of my daily deeds
Thank you so much 🙂
shadows in and outside, light too
Indeed 🙂
Powerful stuff.
Thank you ;.)
Thank you 🙂
This was intense… with a strong imagery. 😉
