Carpe Diem Haiku – Chidori

Winter kigo on Carpe Diem prompt is sandpiper or plover, chidori , I have no sandpiper pictures myself. I therefor have this wonderful old illustration from Wikimedia commons
Sandpipers I see mostly when I hike Swedish mountains in summer. I assume that it’s a snow bird moving south with winter.

safety from surf
sandpipers are feeding
clouds obscure the sun

plover carefully
investigate the sand
avoiding the tide
~~
desolate song
sandpiper calls his mate
lost in migration

    I grew up on the coast and the sandpiper was a favorite to watch as he skillfully, chased the waves
