The month of November is my least favorite month of the year. The trees are bare, and all colors are gone in rain and humidity. Writing and reading poetry can cheer me up. Why not celebrate with a little mellow triolet, I just wrote.
The autumn spent in falling rain
With colors gone my days are gray
But nightly dreams will keep me sane
The autumn spent in falling rain
Release from mellow mood is vain
November dreary days like clay
The autumn spent in falling rain
With colors gone my days are grey

Beautiful.
Thank you. Triolets are fun to write 🙂
It’s a new form to me – I can’t decide if it’s quite bouncy, or the repetition reinforces the dreary mood you’re talking about. Maybe both. I like the result though.
There is a very good description on Wikipedia along with some references to poems by Thomas Hardy. The combination of tetrameter makes it “bouncy”. Probably very easy to sing.
The refrain is beautiful– a tight, well-crafted poem. Love the mood and I think the cadence conveys the tone well, backed up with your diction– just lovely, Bjorn. A fan 🙂
Thank you. Triolet’s and Vianelle’s are so nice to write.
November is the saddest month of the year for me – and it gets so dark, and so little daytime sun.
It’s a dreary time. But inspiring for poetry.
