My fourth entry in Friday Fictioneers. This is starting to be a fun habit, and as usual I am so grateful for all the kind words (as well on advice on grammar 🙂 ) This week’s picture by Ted Strutz caused me some problems initially, but tonight I got a little idea…
At the third day of the convention Jed and Gina were finally out of the endless workshops and seminars. They were strolling round the exhibitors’ booths looking for something to bring home. After a brief pit-stop at the bar they stopped in amazement.
Sipping on her Bloody Mary, Gina said giggling:
“Well there is something I don’t need, sunglasses… Ha ha”
“Who could be that stupid?” leered Jed
“Yeah, they look cool and all that, but who sells sunglasses at a vampire convention?”
“That’s certainly food for thought… Or just food?”

The creepy is once again taking over the Fictioneers. 🙂 I like your take on the sunglasses and it’s so true (or is if there are vampires.)
Just a couple grammar things for you–“Jed and Gina were”, “exhibitors’ booths” to make it more than one exhibitor.
The comment section wasn’t working for me, so one last thing, just a typo…”pit-stop at”. OK, that’s it. Glad you’re enjoying the Fictioneers. It’s addictive!
Thank you so much.. I must be better at proof reading… I cannot blame my Swedish for all mistakes 🙂
Oh I love this 🙂
Thanks 🙂
Your’s is the first I’ve read… interesting take on the photo… I liked how you made it a convention, as when I discovered who Gina and Jed were… I really wanted to know what kind of convention vampers would have… it gave me further thought on your story. That’s storytelling.
I was shocked when I saw my photo… I didn’t know Rochelle was using it. I have to write mine now.
Thank you. I’m also curious about those seminars. 🙂
Yeah… Like ‘How to Escape the Stake”.
Bloody Mary? I’d be curious to see the recipe… On second thought, maybe not!
Maybe you can ask Mary
hahahahahahah! Great comeback.
Fun take on the prompt. Sunglasses at a vampire convention, indeed!
As for the addictive part, Björn…careful you might end up hosting the whole thing. I joined in April and haven’t missed a week since. Glad you’re with us.
It is a fun thing to do, and ,y alibi is always to improve my English.. 🙂
Great interpretation of the photo prompt. Love the concept of a vampire convention!
Thank you, I had to think about it for awhile, but sunglasses on a vampire was about the most absurd I could think of… 🙂
Good one! I’m having a hard time with this myself. You did a great job. Good word choices, like “leered,” and liked the conversational tone! Not to mention the vampires…that had never crossed my mind!
Thank you, I saw the picture when it was posted and thought what I could do. The combination of sunglasses and Halloween was what gave me the idea.
Hi Bjorn,
Vampire conventions are a real pain in the neck, I’ve heard. You know, you’re correct. I’ve never seen a vampire wearing sunglasses. Ron
I’ve never seen a vampire, sunglasses or no. You keep some interesting company, Ron! 🙂
I am not sure actually, I have seen guys wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night, they could actually be vampires… They can be pretty scary.
LOLLL! Very funny Ron.
Hope so, Thank you for reading my little story.
Hey, we were on the same line of thought! Mine’s to do with vampires, too. Enjoyed your take on it 🙂
Thank you, have twittered a lot on vampires and other dark creatures this week so it kind of came natural. 🙂
That was a really original take on the prompt. I really got a kick out of the second to last line-it really made everything come together (certainly made me think twice about the “bloody mary” mentioned earlier!). In fact I would cut the last line entirely-leave us with the not-unpleasant taste of surprise in our mouth!
Thank you, I thought about whether to include it or not. But once I have a decent pun and words remaining it’s hard to avoid. Looking at the story I think I agree… but done is done. 🙂
I like this conversation. Bloody Mary, nice touch! 🙂
Have to have a little hint for the twist early on in the story. 🙂
We went along similar lines this week – nicely done with that twist of humour. Good one
I saw that, vampires and witches come natural on the week of Halloween.
Your purpose was well actualized with this prompt. Well down
Thank you 🙂
Delicious!
🙂
Hahah – that’s a great one! Love the Bloody Mary detail. It does make me wonder what a vampire convention would be like.
Personally I would avoid it. Just think about what happened to Mary the poor caterer 😦
great take on the photo. Wish I had thought of that! but glad you did.
🙂
Somehow I just clicked… Sunglasses + darkness …
Where would this convention be held? So we know to avoid the area. 😉 Of course vampires have conventions, or would it be more on the lines of a conference? And only the cool vamps wear shades. LOL Bloody Mary – *shakes head* Fabulous!
The convention was in Fangfurt
Maybe sunglasses would extend the curfew for the vampire clan….good story.
Doubt it… But maybe the can be fooled into believing that.
Workshops and seminars, eh. Improving their technique I suppose. Jed & Gina seem pretty close. I wonder if they make a coffin for two. Nice story, Bjorn.
There is much at stake for vampires
badum bumm – tishhh! two shows saturday. take care of your bartenders and waitresses.
At a vampire conventions the bartender is probably the tender one
Dear Bjorn,
One of the most intriguing premises i’ve read. Love the idea of a sunglasses booth at a vampire convention. It’s like Stevie Wonder’s Driving School.
Thanks for you comment on my endeavor this week.
Aloha,
Doug
Thank you very much.
Good one, I guess this is style over function!
Or someone unaware who will be part of the menu.
yes, when they say “for dinner”, they mean “for”
I see a future bumper sticker here: As useful as sunglasses at a vampire convention! 🙂
Perfect 🙂
Very good, I see what you mean about thinking on similar lines. I’ve also only just noticed that English is not your first language, to be absolutely honest, I hadn’t noticed that before.
Usually I have a few errors that I correct after friendly comments. After a few iterations it turns decent. And thank you 🙂
Hi Bjorn ~ Here in NYC, it’s normal for people to wear sunglasses day and night … and many of them sip Bloody Mary’s in front of bars. Wonder if any are vampires in disguise? Oops, forgot, vanpires don’t wear sunglasses. Thank you for stopping by and commenting on mine.
A vampire often wears sunglasses, and I’m sure there are plenty in NYC. Take care
Hi Bjorn, great execution of your idea, enjoyed how the story flipped at the end.
Thank you 😉
That sounds like the kind of business I’d invest my life savings in: “But they great on you, Count! They make you look under 500 years old.”
Nice double switch at the end of the piece …
Never trust a guy in sunglasses 🙂
It’s the second vampire story I’ve read. Great how the minds work. Good job.
Could it be Halloween maybe?
Clever, Bjorn! Thanks for visiting ours 🙂
🙂
Hahahaha! Good one!!!! Thanks!
🙂 my pleasure, glad you enjoyed.
Nice twist at the end…enjoyed it.☺
