This week’s Visual Dare entry. A prompt for writing a 100 words story. Picture courtesy of the prompt.

Peter had been nagging his mother to have a pet for years. He was never popular with his class-mates, and was actually quite lonely.
His mother, being single, had always answered that they could not afford it. But when Peter came home bruised after being bullied again, she decided he needed a little friend.
Peter named him George after his absent father, and at first they played along like best friends. But George had an aggressive streak, and Peter was once again a hunted victim.

This should not have been a surprise to Peter, dragons are challenging pets.

Was the woman clueless? Well, obvously. I mean where, in an inner city environment, are you going to keep a dragon? And what do you feed it? And if it’s the fire-breathing type, well, the liability? Worse than owning a pit bull! I tell you, some mothers…
She got it dead cheap, and never considered the consequenses…
Obviously. Thanks for a fun read.
A dragon? Now that was an interesting ending. Certainly unexpected.
I like the idea of pet dragons…
Nothing better than a quirky ending. This story made me smile and reminded me that my three year old asked me if he could have a pet dinosaur . . . ! I’ll take heed and read him your story. Thanks.
Best feedback I could get. Thank you 🙂
Mom should have got him Puff… the Magic Dragon!
or instead helped him to puff some magic dragon!
I think kind dragons are a myth unfortunately… Also I think it was impossible with her budget.
You’re mean. i had two when I grew up and they were my best friends.
You probably go around telling poor kids that there are no
Easter Bunnies or Santa Claus!
from,
Little Jackie
Ha ha, didn’t see that one coming! He needs a bigger back yard!
🙂 Surprise in a short story I like myself when I read.
A great story, made me smile.
That’s the trouble with pet dragons, they can sometimes have that aggressive streak!
There is a reason why there are severe restrictions on dragons. Much easier to have pit bull terriers.
Urban fantasy in under 100 words. Love it. I imagine the dragon as being rather small, but dangerous already, and Peter is realizing he’s got bigger problems than just staying ahead of that aggressive streak…Nice quirky twist on the prompt! Thanks again for another original Visual Dare!
I hear Pete’s Dragon is soothed by a candle on the water…
🙂
